Hey, what's up, hello.
I'm Katie.
I'm a writer, Product Operations Manager, and wedding officiant on a mission to ensure that every first time wedding officiant feels empowered, excited, and stress-free as they deliver the ceremony of their friend or loved one's dreams.

My Values
Empathy
This is a judgment free zone. I meet you where you're at. Remember: you are the hero of the story, I am lucky to be considered a guide.
Knowledge
As a writer, project manager, and officiant, I bring my absolute best in guiding you to create an authentic ceremony.
Creativity
I love working with officiants to craft unique love stories—bringing moments to life for couples and attendees.
Why I started Something Borrowed Ceremonies.
In 2021, one of my best friends asked me to officiate her and her now-husband's wedding (who had also become a best friend of mine over the years).
I was so honored—I can't tell you how much I love my friends, and how much this particular couple meant to me.
I lived in a house with them, and called them mom and dad (jokingly, obviously, we're not weirdos).
I spent so much time researching, Googling, sleuthing for the best resources, figuring out what order things should be in, and learning what the heck a declaration of consent is.
Anyway, point is, I wasted a lot of time learning the basics rather than trying to perfectly capture their love story via my writing (the thing I'm actually pretty good at).
Overall, the ceremony went OK, some even said I did a "Great job!" but in my heart of hearts I knew I could have done better. I didn't captivate attendees with some of the amazing stories I had access to, AND THIS WAS THE WORST FEELING. My friends' wedding was a gorgeous, event-of-a-lifetime type of affair and I had my heart set on writing the most amazing ceremony they'd ever heard, and ultimately I thought it was just OK.
I don't think anyone should feel this way.
Here's the rub: if you know what you're doing, officiating a wedding can be seamless and so much fun. Unfortunately, it's just as easy to get bogged down by all the stuff you find online.
Fast forward to the third wedding I officiated and, oh man, it was night and day. I already had my template set so I could spend my time writing the pieces of the ceremony that needed to shine. I shared stories about the couple and felt confident and had fun, I knew where to add humor and levity. Ultimately, I was able to officiate the wedding I wanted to officiate the first time.
And so, Something Borrowed Ceremonies was born. It's natural to feel that you have to start from scratch in order to have a unique wedding ceremony, but take it from me, the best thing you can do is start with a plan, a template, tried-and-tested resources, and some help from a friend (that's me!).
I want you to feel like a hero your very first time, and would love to help you get there.
Some factoids about me:
Here's a random grab-bag of information about me.
- I love absurdist humor.
- My hobbies include dancing salsa and bachata (and occasionally do country swing or go line dancing when I need to get my hillbilly on).
- I play tennis and have historically been a bit of a head case (think Happy Gilmore). I'm working on it and have become more zen.
- I have a wonderful fiancé named Michael.
- I love writing narrative non-fiction through my Substack "Suboptimal" (which is currently on pause as I work on my bizniz).
- In my 9-5, I'm a Senior Product Operations Manager, which explains why I'm a stickler for good Project Management!
- If this sort of thing resonates with you, I'm an enneagram 2 wing 1 or 1 wing 2 and an INFJ/ENFJ depending on how social I'm feeling on a given day. I am a Leo sun and Virgo rising.
